Children of blood and Bone - Part 3

 Chapter 56 – Zélie

We zip through the crowd while celebrants thrust and shimmy by our sides. Though part of me wants to cry, I crane my neck to take in the crowd, craving their joy, their life.
The children of Orïsha dance like there’s no tomorrow, each step praising the gods. Their mouths glorify the rapture of liberation, their hearts sing the Yoruba songs of freedom. My ears dance at the words of my language, words I once thought I’d never hear outside my head. They seem to light up the air with their delight.
It’s like the whole world can breathe again.
This could be compared to a festival
A message I take from this scene is that Zelie has not felt joy in such a long time

Chapter 59 – Zélie
“How will me coming back to Lagos solve any of that?” I ask. “As we speak, your father calls for my head!”
“My father’s scared.” Inan shakes his head. “He’s misguided, but his fear is justified. All the monarchy’s ever seen is the destruction maji can bring. They’ve never experienced anything like this.” He gestures to the camp, face alight with so much hope his smile practically glows in the darkness. “Zulaikha created this in one moon, and there are already more diviners in Lagos than anywhere else in Orïsha. Just imagine what we could accomplish with the resources of the monarchy behind us.”
This could be compared to
A message I take from this scene is that the royalties are afraid of majis because they have done some bad things in the past

Chapter 66 – Inan
Father stands in his night robes, scanning a faded map. No sign of hatred. Not even a hint of disgust.
For him, carving MAGGOT into a girl’s back is just another day’s work.

In that instant it hits me: Zulaikha’s death. Zélie’s screams. They don’t mean a thing to him. Because they’re maji, they’re nothing.
This could be compared to a movie where there are lots of violence
A Messege I take from this scene is that king saran would do anything to get what he wants

Think about how the word ‘maggot’ is used. This is a slur. Do we have these in real life?

Essay

In Social Studies, we have been writing an essay about the popular technologies and how they have changed over time

Agricultural Age

During the agricultural revolution period in history, there were some significant technological advancements. Some of the inventions during time were tractors, Seed drills, and Fertilizers. These inventions seen during this time are all still widely seen and used today.

A significant invention during the agricultural revolution period were the tractors. A tractor is used for pulling or pushing agricultural machinery or trailers, for plowing, tilling, disking, harrowing, planting, and similar tasks. The first gasoline/petrol-powered tractor was built in Clayton County, lowa, US. Tractors have evolved and advanced quite a bit since the first engine was invented by Benjamin Holt and Richard Jordan Gatling in 1892. This is why this is an important invention

Another significant invention during the agricultural revolution period were the seed drills. A seed drill is a device that sows the seeds for crops by positioning them in the soil and burying them to a specific depth. The first known seed drill was attributed to Camillo Torello in 1566, and then it was further refined by Jethro Tull in 1701 in the Agricultural Revolution in England. This system is still used today but has been modified and updated such that a farmer can plant many rows of seed at the same time. This is why this is an important invention

Combine Harvesters were also used during the time period of the agricultural revolution. The first one was introduced in 1834, in the United States and was invented by Hiram Moore. The Combine Harvesters are capable of reaping, threshing, and winnowing cereal grain. The early versions were pulled by horses, mules, and oxes now it is pulled by machines. This machine is still in use today and powered by diesel and gasoline engines. This is why this is an important invention

In conclusion during the Agricultural era, there were many significant technological advancements seen Some of those discussed are the Tractors, Seed drills, and Combine Harvesters. These are all commonly seen today all around the world and are still very important.

Children of Blood and Bone - Part 2

 Chapter 30 – Amari

Chaos.
Before this moment, I never truly understood the word. Chaos meant Mother’s screams before a luncheon. It meant the scramble of oloyes to their gold-lined chairs.
Now chaos surrounds me, pulsing through every breath and heartbeat. It sings as blood splatters through the air, snickers with delight as boats explode into oblivion.

This could be compared to world wars

A message I take from this scene is

Chapter 43 - Inan
Now it takes everything to gain control. No matter how hard I fight, the risk of feeling Zélie’s pain lingers. A constant and growing threat.
(Why is thinking about the truth a “threat”?)

- Because Inan wants to learn how to control his magic

This could be compared to

A message I take from this scene is

Chapter 45 – Inan
“Your people, your guards. They’re nothing more than killers, rapists and thieves. The only difference between them and criminals is the uniforms they wear.”

This could be compared to

A message I take from this scene is that the guards are exactly like criminals

Catapult machines

In Science, we were told to make our own catapult machines using only popsicle sticks and rubber bands.

Creative Writing - 1st person narrative

We have been studying Antarctica. We listened to a story about Nanook, a husky who was sent to Antarctica on an expedition in 1901. We then wrote the next chapter of the story from Nanook’s ‘Point of View’.

A day has passed after the celebration, I started feeling excited as Hector told me that we are going to Antarctica the day after tomorrow. I woke my friends up and told them the good news after Hector left. They all felt the same feelings as me as soon as they heard me say the ‘leaving to Antarctica’ part. We all felt really happy about the new upcoming adventures even though we knew that it would not be easy because everything would be fine as long as we have each other. Another day has passed and I and my team could feel the warmth of the sun as it rises to the sky.

Math

In Maths, we learnt how to use Substitution into an equation by replacing a variable with a number when it is known. And we also learnt about formulae, In formulae, letters are used to represent numbers. For example, the formula A lw = can be used to find the area of a rectangle.
