When heated, particles expand.
When cooled, particles contract
Equipment:
- Bunsen
- Tongs
- Ice cream container
- Can
- Safety glasses
Method:
1. Fill ice cream container with COLD water
2. Place 50ml of water in the can
3. Set up Bunsen + Mat
Aim: To observe contraction in cold water
Hypothesis: I thought nothing would happen to the can when put in cold water
Observation:
When we were heating the can it started boiling and making sounds then when we put it into the cold water, the particles suddenly stopped and shrink
Explanation:
The can stopped and shrink when we put it into the water because the water was cold and the can was hot
